We may concentrate on novel-writing courses here at Curtis Brown Creative, but we love new writers and we love short stories, too. So we were delighted to hear that the Costa Short Story Award is currently accepting submissions. The award is for a single, previously unpublished short story of up to 4,000 words written in English by an author aged 18 or over and, though it’s open to published and unpublished writers, all submissions will be judged anonymously. So there’ll be no trading on names and numbers of Twitter followers here:
Last year’s inaugural competition saw more than 1,800 entries and Costa is expecting even more in 2013. The six shortlisted finalists will have their stories posted on the Costa Short Story Award website, and the winner will be selected by a public vote.
The closing date for submissions is 4pm on Friday 2 August. If you’d like to enter, please click here. Good luck!
As well as expert teaching from published authors, all our novel-writing courses offer dedicated modules on submitting your novel to literary agents – and include sessions on writing a synopsis and preparing a covering letter. Click for more information or to apply for our creative writing courses.
