We at Curtis Brown Creative are delighted to be offering one paid scholarship place on our upcoming London-based Three-Month Novel-Writing Course, running from 25th April to 18th July. For the fifth time, HW Fisher & Company Chartered Accountants are generously providing the full funding for one student of limited financial means to join the course. The CBC team is keen to promote diversity among our students, and to discover exciting new voices and vibrant new stories: With applications now coming in, we look forward to welcoming a talented student who would not otherwise have been able to study with us.
Kirsty Capes (@kirstycapes), the last winner of the HW Fisher scholarship, has just finished her course. She says, of winning the scholarship: “Any aspiring writer will know how isolating an experience writing can be. CBC has created a safe and nurturing environment where I can present my writing in a non-judgemental and constructive setting among other writers who are going through the same creative process as me. The expert help and in-depth feedback from agents, editors and authors is totally invaluable. More than that, being awarded the HW Fisher scholarship has felt like a real validation of my work. It’s an incredible, invigorating feeling, knowing that someone has read my writing and found it to be credible and worthy of their time.”
Louise McCreesh, the winner of the Spring 2016 HW Fisher scholarship, continued writing her novel after her course ended, and has now signed with an agent. She says: “I thought there wasn’t a chance in hell I would get onto the course and now I can honestly say my life would be a lot different if I hadn’t!”
The new HW Fisher scholar will join the Three-Month Novel-Writing Course, on which tutor Charlotte Mendelson will lead weekly evening workshops, teaching sessions and one-to-one tutorials to help you make your novel fly. Visiting speakers to the course will include best-selling author Matt Haig, appearing with his agent Clare Conville, who will answer questions from the fifteen students.
The HW Fisher scholar will be selected from applications by the CBC team, based on a 3,000 word extract from the beginning of their novel-in-progress. The deadline for applying to the course is midnight at the end of Sunday, 8th April.
