Former Curtis Brown Creative student to publish psychological thriller

Dawn Goodwin, author
by Rufus Purdy From Our Students

Huge congratulations to our former student Dawn Goodwin, who has just become our 34th student to get a book deal. Dawn, who studied on the very first of our online writing courses in 2013 – along with fellow published novelists Alice Clark-Platts and Catherine Bennetto – will have her debut novel – psychological thriller The Accident – published by Head of Zeus imprint Aria (coincidentally also the home of fellow former CBC online student Jessica Jarlvi) on 1 October.

Described as ‘a gripping, debut psychological thriller that will keep you hooked – perfect for the fans of Paula Hawkins and SJ Watson’, The Accident is about one woman’s comfortable suburban life coming to a shuddering halt when her young daughter tragically dies in a car accident. Months later, unable to come to terms with her daughter’s death, detached from her husband and alienated from her friends and family, a chance encounter on a rainy street pushes her into an unlikely new friendship. But it soon becomes clear that the friendship she thought was saving her life could be costing her everything.

‘I want to extend my thanks to you all for your help and support in the initial stages of the novel,’ says Dawn. ‘I am thrilled with how the novel has evolved and incredibly proud of it – and much of this comes from the skills I developed on the course. I am also still in touch with the others who were on the course with me and we are still reading each other’s drafts and critiquing all of the new novels we are working on, usually over glasses of wine rather than coffee these days!’
